Providing Free Stuff
By David Turnbull
I just has this thought and I reckon it’s a nice little tip. This should help you if you own a website that gives out free stuff such as:- Website Templates
- MySpace Layouts
- Forum Signatures
- Forum Userbars
- Banners
- Graphics etc
Anything in that general area – basically free stuff that is used on websites (whether their own, or someone else’s). So instead of (or in addition if you want) putting your own “Template Designed by Turnbull”, you place a link to one of your Azoogle offers.
Isn’t that fairly untargeted?
Say you make music related templates, put a link to Get a Free iPod, if you have a video game MySpace layout put a link to get a Free Nintendo DS, with a little bit of thought you can make these ads quite targetted (and profitable!).
What if an Offer Expires?
You’ll have to keep track of the offers remember, and this is the major flaw, some offers expire making all those links void, but you could always either:- Use an Iframe
Includes all the links in an iframe in the template, blend it in so it doesn’t look like one, but this would allow for you to update the links whenever.
- Find Offers that don’t Expire
Unlikely, but some of the “harder to complete” offers will take longer to expire (if at all). Don’t use offers that are competitions as they never last too long.
- Flash
You could go the Flash route, make a simple .swf file with the links in it, you can definitely make it look nicer than the iframe.
- PHP Includes
This will rarely work as most of the topics I listed above, PHP won’t be applicable or in use, but if you’ve designed a free PHP template then by all means use PHP Includes.
- Use a Landing Page
Instead of linking directly to an affiliate link to your own landing page which redirects to your affiliate. You can then freely change the landing page with whatever you want at a later date.
