Creating Effective Landing Pages
By David Turnbull

Landing pages for advertising Azoogle offers are commonly used in conjunction with Google Adwords, so I thought it’d be important to talk about landing page creation a bit.

1. Call to Actions. Use impulse words and phrases such as “buy now”, “get it free today!” or “Register Now!” – you’d be surprised how many people will follow through with an offer when they see those words.

2. Quick and To the Point. Don’t give long winded explanations, try to explain as much as you can in as few words as you can, people are generally lazy and aren’t interested in reading a thesis about a product.

3. Formatting. Keep your landing page well formatted. Use paragraphs, separate different sections under different headings, and make it as easy to read as possible.

4. Images. Images attract viewers attentions, place them within important parts of the content to draw them in to that section.

5. Ask and Answer. A common technique is to use ‘Ask and Answer’. This is when you ask your visitor a question, but answer it yourself. Example: “Do you want low cost appliances? Yes! Register with this Site Today!”

6. Fast Load Times. Not everyone has broadband, try to minimize the load time as much as possible whilst still making it visually appealing.

7. Eye Level Information. Stick all the important information right in front of the visitor, leave out the bulk of the details and place them lower down in the page. You want your visitors to comprehend what the site is straight away.

8. Limit Navigation. You want your visitor to stay, not navigate to a different site. Limit the amount of navigation and links on your site so they don’t “wander off”.

9. No Other Ads. If you’re trying to get someone to complete an offer don’t add Adsense or other ads to your page, like with the limiting navigation, you want your visitors to stay so they can be convinced they want to buy a product, or register with a site.

10. Testimonials. Ask people for testimonials and then post these on your landing page. This adds trust on your behalf.

11. Free Traffic. There is no reason landing pages can’t get some extra free traffic, submit it to Google, and to some directories to try and get some back links. IF you do have some related landing pages you may consider linking to these, but only casually – you still want to keep your visitor on the one landing page.
