You monetize it in a way that you attract customers to your restaurant.

If you have ads in mind, I´d forget it.

I was thinking more in terms of adding a link directory page or community links page, and some of them would be affiliate links. This is how i was thinking of monetizing on the site, if at all.

Does anyone here have any restaurant website experience?

I don't know... I think there might be something to be said for putting adsense or something on the page for those visitors who decide that it was not exactly what they were looking for. Perhaps they will see something that does interest them in the adsense blocks. Nothing wrong with trying to make some money from people who aren't going to pay in any other way.

I think that your site should be promoted and built so that you really impress guests and they want to eat in your restaurant. Sorry, but I really cannot imagine a restaurant website with ads for other restaurants. It will look silly and unproffessional.

And cook dinner instead of coming to your restaurant? Bag that idea. Get yourself a nice looking website and make sure you're in all of the local directories and IYP's.

The great thing about websites is that if you try something and it doesn't work you can undo it again easily. Try whatever you think is right for your site. If it works then great, if not just remove it again.

Affiliate links to local services your customers might like or recipe pages with adsense, or something else that gives extra information and value to your visitors could help improve your site, whereas piling unrelated ads allover will most likely hurt it. Use your common sense and trial and error.

If I was going to eat at a restaurant, and went to the website to check it out and saw adverts on it....I wouldn't eat at that restaurant.

if you sell something, be it food, switches, or tv's, it should not have ads on it.

Given the typical traffic level of a restaurant website, there's really nothing you could do to monetize it that would be worth more money than driving additional customers to the restaurant itself. And ads, a directory, affiliate links, etc, are all going to invite people to check out your competition.
