What is the best way to market my article writing buisness

Hello everyone I was hoping that someone could possibly help me get my article writing business off the ground. I have been having a hard time finding places to market my services to because of the stiff competition. For instance, freelancing sites such as elance and guru are extremely hard to find work and other forums already have people established as the "go to" guy for article writing. So could someone please give me some pointers to get some clients. thanks

A good way to market your writing business is to submit your articles to article directory sites such as ezinearticles.com, then put your link and contact information in the resource box along with a short description of your services.

Another avenue to pursue is guest posting for various blogs. Many bloggers offer the chance to guest blog. Some have a standing offer where you simply send your article and other blogs may only be looking for guest posts when they go on vacation or at different times of year.

Odds are most won't pay for the guest posts (though some may), but it does give you a chance to show what you can do and reach a potential audience. Even if a blog doesn't pay they'll more than likely let you create a small bio at the bottom of the post with a link back to your site.

Also with your site. If you're serious about building a writing business I'd move away from blogger. Get a better domain name, pay for hosting, and set up a site. Your site can be a blog. I'd suggest WordPress. Give us more information about you. Offer some sample articles on your site so people can really see how well you write. Blog regularly as another way to show off your writing skills.

It's true that it's a competitive market. That's why you have to do more. If I have a choice between you telling me you can write me a great article and another person who's showing me a sample of their great writing, I'm always going to choose that other person. That's not a knock on you. It's just that seeing samples makes the choice in that person less risky.

You can also make a blog or site about your services along with some good articles or content that you created. People will eventually find it and it could be a form of resume or something every time someone asks about you.

I would recommend this. Your blog doesn't have to have a post a day, or even 5 posts a week. As long as you reliably and consistently produce quality entries, your readership could increase. You could have an About page outlining your services, and the blog entries would sort of serve as an informal resume.

If you want the run the kind of business where clients pay you for what you produce, the worst way to get this off the ground is to establish a reputation for giving your work away for free.

You mentioned that there's a lot of competition, but it's segmented. 99 % of your competition is made up of what writers call "hacks," who produce lousy quality, with plenty of made up words, no grammar, etc. Free, and worth every penny, but they get a precious link out of it. The best thing you can do is find customers who are willing to pay for quality, and deliver it to them.

Publish your works at HubPages and Squidoo. There are people who are earning continuously from their articles they published on these websites. Yes, Ezine and WordPress can help, too. Also, try Triond. Your articles will get 'displayed' here and will be for sale. There's a certain percent of deducted from payment when your articles are sold. Good luck!

It can seem like a very tough task to get noticed and be taken seriously as a writer for the web. Don't get frustrated. It takes time to build relationships (with clients, potential clients, and other writers as well. Never underestimate the power of networking with others in your field).

Many people find themselves writing for pennies or even for free to "establish" themselves. Don't do this! Have a look at Jennifer's article about this:

uniquearticles1, I see that you already have a blog online for your services, great! May I recommend though, that some nice pictures and even a logo to identify yourself would make the site more memorable and perhaps keep readers even longer.

Exactly, this is that which I'm trying to avoid too. You need to balance out what goes free and why. For instance, if I blog, I need it to not harm the value of works that I sell, otherwise people will catch on and avoid paying for something they can get free.
