I like the girl's skirt reference.
Anyway, most people don't read insanely long blog posts. That's because the nature of blog posts are supposed to be conversational. If you're having a conversation with a person you wouldn't want to just hang around there while the other person talks for fifteen minutes straight, right? This is based on experience by the way. Most bloggers write about opinion on news, gadget reviews and maybe some newfound information but they wouldn't ramble on it for around 8 paragraphs. Well, at least I wouldn't.
Now the same cannot be said about articles. Since articles are good sources of information, and people who read articles are looking for information, short articles would give the impression that the article isn't all that helpful. So if you're making an article, it is advisable to put all the essentials in.
The reason why articles tend to be longer is that you have to make sure your content is long enough to discuss your topic effectively. And fully discussing a topic would normally take more than 300 words, right?
