You mention that your "site" is climbing well on Google but presumably there
will be one particular page on your site that's ranking well (if all your pages
are optimised for exactly the same keyword then you're throwing away an
opportunity to spread your net. Remember, Google ranks pages not sites).
If a particular page is ranking well for this keyword that you mention then
adding a new article page focussed on the same keyword won't harm the
one that's already there. Google will focus on the page that ranks best for
that keyword so if your new page is better then it'll rank higher than your
current one, if it isn't better then your current page will remain the best
performer for that keyword.
However, if you already have a page in the top 7 for that keyword then I
personally think that you'd be better off targetting your new pages on other
keywords. Don't do anything to mess with the one that's already doing well,
but add new pages that can dominate their own keyword rankings. Spread
your net a bit.
