Hello there,

I just want to share a little story with you guys that happened to me some time ago. Couple months ago I visited my Google Analytics account and was really disappointed. Traffic to my website from Google was dramatically decreased. And I had no idea why did it happened. I tried to figure our what happened and sent an email to Google which was completely ignored. Because there was no restricted content on my website I though only about one possible reason - someone duplicated my content. I have used some free services such as Copyscape to check it. And I was right. I found a lot of websites with my content and there wasn't any links to original source. Next I sent couple DMCA complains to hosting companies and closed a few of those websites. But definitely it takes to many time to do everything on my own. I found couple of services that allows to monitor and take down illegal copies of your content.
Some of theme are dmca dot com and guardlex dot com.* Main difference between those is price. Guardlex is much cheaper right now I'm using it. Check it if you wish. Those guys doing same thing you can do on your own, but faster. As they say they have some automatic system for this. Anyway, after first month there was much less copies of my content in Copyscape. And some of my ranking in search engines came to normal.

In my opinion here are some main benefits of unique content and why do you need to protect it.

• Original and unique content, useful and interesting information help you to own trust from your visitors. Which means that most probably they will return to your website.

• Other websites and blogs may write about your website if you have interesting and unique content. This way you can expand number of back links and receive better rankings from search engines.

• Usually your website stands near similar resources. Original content actually separates you from them making your website more respectable and popular, showing that you have your own point of view and enough knowledge to create unique things. This helps to gain more reputation as well as visitors trust, so they may share your website on Facebook, tweet about your website or simply email link to a friend.

But there are also some negative factors related with unique content that you should keep in mind. It is common that your content may be copied to another website and published there as its own, without any link or information about your website. Getting your content duplicated without any changes on another website is very unwanted because it pulls the undesirable consequences.

First of all, you may get penalties by search engines for duplicate content.  This will lower your search engines results for specific terms or even worst your website may be completely banned from showing in search engines. You loose your visitors. Returned visitors see the same content on another website and start to go there decreasing traffic to your website. New visitors consider violators website as content owner and as long as they find enough information there they will not move to another website, so your website loose new visitors.

Wow. That was good. It shows why original and protected content is very important. I create only the content. My client does the protecting. So, its a good deal between us both.

Inspite of Google Panda and the aftermath, even today out of about 1,000 writing jobs on freelancer.com a good 80% plus come from moonlighters seeking 'original' 'copyscape passed' content with perfect grammar at less than slave wages.

Recently I saw a job post offering 25 cents for a 500 word article!!

I think it is high time that freelancer.com initiates some serious de-weeding operation so that genuine webmasters and website owners are encouraged to come here for their content needs.

What happened to you is possibly a typical case of these 1 dollar writers who simply lift content and sell them as their own. Disputable but could be closer to truth.

I agree that there are way to many low paying article writing jobs on Freelancer. Unfortunately, it's not just them. Many other sites have this same problem too. Too many people think they can get high quality work for next to nothing.
