I'm a bit old-school. Standard keyboard, optical wired mouse with a scroll wheel, I'm fine.

I use a standard keyboard.. wired at home but wireless at work. I use a wireLESS trackball - the kind with the smaller ball under the thumb and 2 buttons with a scrollwheel between them (logitech). I prefer the control that the trackball gives me when I'm designing in Photoshop.

Wireless standard keyboard and wireless optical mouse.

Now a trackball, haven't used one of those since the mid-90s. Can you still buy those?

I haven't used one myself since they were attached to the old ICON keyboards in the early 90s. Oh, memories of long-lost high school days and 16-color programming in Turing (what a waste of time THAT was!)

I can't believe I am "oldschool" at 20, but in the computer world that is a long time. I use a standard keyboard and a wired optical mouse by microsoft. That thing has been working forever, it cost me 20 bucks 2 and a half years ago.

Of course you can, where do you think I got mine ? I have the same trackball at home and at work and I love it. I can get much finer control with it in Photoshop than I ever could dragging a standard mouse around my desk.

My trackball isn't like the big old Mac ones with the baseball sized ball in the middle (always gave me a cramp in my hand !). Mine is more like a big marble under my thumb - this one: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mi...s/159&cl=us,en

Besides, if you sit in a small cube or otherwise have limited desk space for mousing around, this trackball requires only moving your thumb .

For keyboard, a standard one is ust perfect.
But, in the last month, I've seen more and more keyboard who have the set of 6 keys, above the arrows key arranged diffently.

I'm used to a layout of 2 rows of 3 cols
Code:
   insert home pg up
----------------------------------------
   delete end pg down
I use those keys all the time when I code, except for insert.
But, last time I checked the keyboard, most of the logitech/ms I saw had a 5 key layout.
One column with home/delete (delete having 2 time the size of the other keys) and the other with end / pg up / pg down.

I found this layout very uneasy to adapt. At the point hat I've buyed another cheap labtec keyboard, rather than using this logitech one.

And for the mouse, if you look for precision, I'm using a logitec MX518, which allows me to change the precision of the optic sensor on the fly, with 2 small buttons around the wheel.

Pretty useful when you need to be very precise.

I use a logitech g5 mouse.... has an extra button that's good when I like to game.

I'm looking into getting a keyboard that's similiar to the ones generally found on laptops.

I really, really understand where you're coming from. That new layout is horrible! What's more, they dropped a key from it. Insert, I think. It's really only 5 keys. Delete takes up 2. Why bother changing the design, only to make the overall length of the keyboard about half an inch shorter?
I have a Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo set at home. Never changed the batteries in 2 years. And at work, I got a Logitech wired keyboard (£6..and really good), and a Logitech MX5 wireless mouse. Probably one of the most reliable mice on the face of the planet. Them and, I reluctantly say this, Microsoft's range. They're really good too. Last forever!

I walked into Staples the other day, and found this keyboard sitting on the shelf on clearance for $15.99

I love the curve..i absolutely love it!

The keys are also super quiet too...my other one was pretty clunky so it certainly is a nice change.

I would get one with a laser on the bottom and a scroll wheel with two buttons because I also play games that need the scroll wheel .
I use Microsoft wheel optical mouse it is about $20.00 and worth it I had a track ball before it got worn out I can't complain about this mouse.
Also if your left handed you may feel more comfortable with a left hand mouse I have a friend who has one because he is better with his left.
