I've ordered a Macbook now - it's specs are as follows:
  • 13 inch screen
  • Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz
  • 2GB 667 DDR2 RAM
  • 8x DVD RW
  • 200GB SATA drive (4200rpm)
Anyone had experience with Macbooks? What do you think?

And of course, we can't mention Mac without coming back to the Apple-Microsoft debate!

I think it's a program you buy, called boot camp..

my g/f got her other mac stolen at an airport, so she bought a macbook pro today and so far it is pretty **** nice!

I'm gonna have to pick up one now that is runs both major operating systems.....still more expensive than building your own PC..but thats OK

I have a MacBook. Love it

BootCamp is free by the way, though still in beta. You will need a valid license of Windows, though. For the apps I run I prefer to use virutualization software like Parallels or VMWare Fusion. It allows you to run another operating system while also running OSX. I've got Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu set up at the moment. It's really cool to be able to start up a completely new OS while still being able to use OSX.

Last I heard from the Mac folks, Intel is a love child of the Devil himself and Ken Lay, raised with Jeffrey Dahmer for a baby sitter. The cult of Mac, led by God himself (aka Steve Jobs) told us Intel sold the WMD to Iraq, Intel created the AIDS virus, war and famine, and all that's wrong with the world. And they did it because Intel hates your freedom, wants to take it away.

But I guess now Intel is good, huh?

I have some friends with iBooks. They told me the chips IBM used to make to power Macs with were 2x the power and speed of Intel chips at the same rating. Now the new Intel Mac books are 2x the power and speed of the old IBM ones. I don't understand that kind of math.

Speaking of "think differently," can anyone help me understand how a computer with an Intel chip, an ATI video card, and a linux based operating system is "different" instead of "paint by numbers mass production?"

Grrr I've been searching the net for delivery times and it seems like it;s going to take ages to arrive. I ordered it on 23rd July. If anyone has ordered one from the Apple online store before, what sort of delivery time did it take?

My good friend just bought a Macbook and she loves the thing. She was glad that I could recommend some software to her heh. I hope to get a Macbook Pro sometime soon! My iBook G3 just doesn't cut it (thankfully I have a pretty good windows PC, but its a desktop, which doesn't help in college.)

I think you'll have a good time with your Macbook! Good luck!

I think that Macbooks can be very practical if you need an itinerant and reliable machine. So far i know its totally subjective, but i found them absolutely ugly ! sorry for Macbooks users !

Simple, both are lies XD

Normal Logic
Intel chip = Intel chip
2,16 Ghz = 2,16 Ghz
Comma decimal point = Period decimal point
2 * (2,16 Ghz) = 2 * (2,16 Ghz)

Apple Logic
Intel chip < Intel chip +
2,16 Ghz < 2,16 Ghz +
Comma decimal point < Period decimal point +
2 * (2,16 Ghz) < 2 * (2,16 Ghz) +

That's the gist of it. (The Comma thing is because I couldn't get my old apple to like me using a comma for a decimal point '...'
annoying since my normal C++ compiler doesn't seem to mind replacing ',' with '.' when I run it.

The difference is a Linux-ish kernel with a Unix-ish operating system. MacOS sometimes reminds me of that program you wrote in High school that was a mash of ninety-nine tutorials which essentially works but is a mess of code.

Don't take me for knocking Mac, it certainly is a great Operating System, but it is worth about the same hype as Windows is.

As far as your new Mac Book, congratulations, you found a nice build. It may be a bit on the pricey side, but you'll find that if you keep your memory usage and running programs under control (MUCH easier in Mac as I believe all hidden programs are listed in finder anyhow) you should be able to stay on top of technology (barring a major breakthrough technology) for a few years.
