I personally use the komodo range of products on my laptop (firewall and antivirus)
http://www.comodo.com/products/free_products.html Otherwise, grisoft AVG free edition does a good job, I've heard... http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download...virus/us/frt/0

Hi Chris, I've been using Nod32 for over 3 years now, they are the only Antivirus to never miss a hit in the world, I highly recommend it as I supply all my clients with Nod32, they have won numerous awards and the best part is that it doesn't slow down your machine like AVG, Norton etc...
It uses a total of 2% of your system resources at any given time. It's not free but if you want total 100% peace of mind, it doesn't cost a lot and its honeslty worth having, it also cleans Adware and Spyware (and no I'm not affiliated with them in any way) I'm just a loyal customer ![]() Try a free trial at www.eset.com Hope that helps, Shaun Kemsley Last edited by VirusDoctor : 07-21-2007 at 07:09 PM. |

Make sure you go with a free one that someone recommends. There are a lot of "free" ones, that in the end cost a lot more than a virus would have. All too often clients come in with their pc messed up, but do not know why. They were looking for a free antivirus, instead ended up with rogue programs causing extensive damage.

I was using AVG but got so tired of the pop-up ad interrupting whatever I was doing by forcing me to acknowledge it before continuing what I was doing that I'm now trying Avast ( http://www.avast.com/ ) and so far I'm very happy with it.
Also should mention, I got 3 trojan horses while using AVG and had to reformat and reinstall Windows...that didn't make me too happy, either! |

Free antiviruses are alright, but they do not compare very well with paid versions - unless you can't afford a paid version, only opt for a free version then

I see there has been plenty of replies here, just wanted to air my opinion thou.
I have tried many different Av's like norton, mcafee and many many others, and the one i like the most and has by far been the best for me is avast pro http://www.avast.com Updates normaly every day somtimes every 2 days, boots up fast and isnt memory excessive. There are many other great reasons why i like avast but most are on the site so im not going to bore every one ![]() |

Well, my "free" avast is now telling me my "free TRIAL" is running out so I guess it isn't really free. cybernetic, you're happy with it? Because I'm going to just purchase something but that begs the question, "WHICH ONE!?!" There are SO many now! Do you have to pay a yearly update/upgrade fee for avast? tx!
