Long story to be avoided.

I need an XP boot cd. And do you think I could find a place to download the files on the net ??? NOOOO I get every single set up under the sun but a simple XP boot disk with the Fdisk utility.

Some got a link or a zip file they can send me ?

If you are just trying to fdisk and format your drive you can download the "ultimate boot disk" as an iso image and burn it. It will boot linux on your machine and then you shell over to Dos to use the utilities.

Once you correct whatever problem with the drive, your regular XP CD will properly format the drive for use with XP.

I don't recall the site but the term in " " will find it for you.

PM me if you are interested.

This is like extremly bad comedy.

(I'm having a real month !!! Alexa attack bots, hard drives with weird slid things instead of pins, vista keeps reloading itself when I sleep and no paypal verrified address.)

LOL I am a candien francophone living in France.
(Welcome to my nightmare)

If there are 3 things we French do very well is...
1) Work hard at being different than everyone else.
2) Create beaucracies with no reason.
3) Be difficult.

Having said that...
If anyone knows anything about French banks....

Hooking up a bank account or credit card to paypal can be a nightmare that might(for some dum reason ) require a certificate from the prefecture of the police to do.

And by french banking standards..... I am only allowed 1 bank account.

--------
So I have a paypal account. It is hooked up to my Canadien address and bank. But as you can understand... Paying for a flight to go home and get the CDs just wouldn't be practical.

But I do appreciate the offer. (Seriously and I do sincerly mean that)

Would an ISO cd image with just an original win98se boot disk on it do the trick ?
(which you can find here, if ever: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm)

I remember I have a dd copy of a win98 boot disk.
I can mkisofs you a cd image which would just be a copy of the bootable floppy, if that helps you.

PS:
I really mean to make the cd bootable with the win98 floppy disk...Not just to copy a file on the cd

As long as I can boot to something that isn't a dos enviroment.
I would be rocking !!!

The restore disks failed and the Full Install CD won't setup initilize under anything remotely DOS.

What happen in this world ???

I have gone to every xp machine in my office and there is NO function to make a boot cd.

I phoned microsoft and lost money asking for a boot cd.
The guy on the phone sounded like he was scratching his rear.

Am I that old that I am the only person that remembers using them ?

And win98 isn't dos.

Windows have no function to make a botoable cd.

And windows 98 is based on a subset of ms-dos, so when you make a windows98 boot disk, it's just a dos boot disk which can launch windows98.

Windows 200 and latest are based on windows NT, which have no ms-dos subset tied to him.

So, if you want a win98 boot disk, you will end up on a ms-dos shell.
If you look for a windows 2000/Xp boot disc, you will be able to launch the recovery console (I think, never had to try it)

With the the bartPe link I posted before, you can have the lineup to make a windows xp live cd, but you won't find any ready made iso images, due to the licensing of windows.

I found an image of the 98 on a torrent site.
(anyone know how I'm supposed to burn these files to CD win98bootcd.ccd - win98bootcd.img - win98bootcd.sub )

If that doesn't work I've dug out some old win2000 cds

--------
update:

Tried both XP and 2K
Not only did I try them on the machine having the problem but went to 4 others in my office.

Guess what ?????

I have to assume that in my culture's typical "be different and difficult for the sake of being different and difficult" manner.
Regardless of make, year or model all the computers require a blooming boot CD to enter setup.

Therefore... obviously there are more differences in the installation software than just the languges.
(Doesn't surprise me) And most likely microsoft France did this to prevent pirating.

So I am back at start.
