In my opinion most of the antivirus/antispyware systems are not that helpful in stopping/finding all spyware on the computer.

When I go to a someone's house to fix their computer due to spyware. I do run AVG antispyware to help find any of the obvious adware/spyware on the computer. But since they use signature based detection it can still miss a lot.
So I then grab some tools from sysinternals.com such as autoruns, process explorer, rootkit realver. Boot the computer in safe mode and remove the bad startup/services/login processes. Manually review over the windows directory and system32 directory by date/time and filename.
Also grab unlocker from http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ which will allow you to remove files that are in use.

If you need to get a decent free one I tend to suggest AVG Antispyware it changes all the time I used to like Spysweeper as a good free one but feels like it has become bloated and slow.

I don't use anything but the built in Windows Defender in Vista. Don't really need a virus scanner if you are careful.

I used to use Norton. It actually expired a few days ago and I have yet to replace it with a new program or renew it.

tamar, I suggest that you get an anti-virus program. Never hurts to have some security.

Personally, I use the free version of avast!. I used to be a fan of NOD32, but it is paid and I've already paid more than enough for their updates, in my opinion... Was a long time user until I found the awesome free program I mentioned above..

I'd say the same thing if I downloaded questionable content. I guess I'm overconfident. One day, I'll pay for it, but on the last 10+ machines or so that I've owned, I've been pretty lucky.

If I do get concerned about something I download, I usually run the Trend Micro online scanner. I also do regular backups and won't be too upset if I had to wipe my computer clean and start from a clean slate if I needed to. I'd rather reformat every so often than let my computer get bloated with extra software.

To each his own. I'm a rarer breed

Norton 360 looks good. I'm not actually using one right now. I lost my copy of Norton Antivirus and i haven't bought any since. I'll probably wait until i buy my new laptop, which should be sometime in the next few months. ^^

I use AVG antivirus in my computer and laptop, but in Mac, i have not used any Anti virus yet, as i don't think much about viruses there.
But for windows, as said, i always prefer AVG antivirus.

I recently tried Norton and Kaspersky but ended up with Avira AntiVir. ... All worked fine and have good test result - but Avira is freeware for personal use. (Though it does not check emails in the freeware version.)

I use the nortonsuite at the moment, but I am not liking it. It messes up my email. When my trial expires I will be going back to AVG antivirus & Comodo firewall. If not sooner...
