It seems every time we have a thunderstorm here, something electrical in my room blows up as it did last time.

This time it was rather loud thunder and I heard a POP from somewhere near my computers (probably under the desk) and there was smoke (smelt like a christmas cracker!)

It doesn't help being in the mountains in a small village on top of a hill and this room being like an electrical disco:

Now my computer (silver in picture) seems to turn on and for the first few times the monitor displayed the bootup but the computer kept restarting, then the monitor didn't display anything from the computer. The computer runs now but there's no display.

Any suggestions?

1. Move location
2. Surround your room in Lead
3. get a fishing rod and sack computers off.

But seriously you may have to cough up some money for new hardware (unles you got insurance). A similar story is on the fedora forums (is that you too) where his setup was rendered useless by a thunder storm. He managed to salvage some bits and bats if I remember but still its not a good thing.

Another thing to consider is getting a power surge plug connector...
If your power supply gets hit, it will not blow things out so easily.

A few years ago, lightning struck near my house and my internal modem (56K ) quit working.
