Yeah, I've been looking at the Beta versions from the Microsoft Developer Network.
It kicks Linux's **** (But then again, so does every other Windows version...)

Yeah 2K rocks... oh wait, actually it was utter chyme.
Really though, considering the cost,,, shouldn't all windows be better than linux?
I don't even get satisfaction from arguing on the side of linux against microsoft sycophants anymore. They are in denial. Destined to be content using inferior products at an extortionate costs.

I havn't had a chance to use it, so this is just based off of what i've read, but I don't really like Vista that much. I think I'll stick to XP as long as humanly possible (Until they start requiring higher versions of windows for software I need).

I didnot try it. From the link provided, it seems that only appearence and graphics might be the advanced and improved.
However, I would suggest Linux for professional and server end use. For personal use, you can try this beta version, and I think it will be good for home use only.

I think Microsoft's methodology in this next release of products will not be to woo people away from linux or even to provide the everyday end user with a better product. I will not at all be surprised if many end users feel dissapointed with Vista and go back to XP.
Their real intent (in my opinion only) is to create a framework for very rich applications to be created. In other words, this next release of products will be designed mainly for the creative developers and largely to engage a younger crowd in the windows software environment.
Their new stuff really excites me but I enjoy programming in .NET. It will start to revolutionize the way we compute in a few years when more developers have taken advantage of the new WinFX filesystem, 64 bit processors and the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF).

There's a reason for that. Major user interface changes don't happen that often because users don't like their way of doing things being messed up. The major changes in Vista are in things like security and back end stuff.

Hopefully now that the GUI is hardware accelerated we'll see plenty of snazzy interface features (like Vista's flip3D - window previews drawn in perspective instead of boring alt-tab menu).

You mean the same one that's been there since Windows NT?

Yeah, so it's not exactly a new feature.

It'll either be a Beta or a Community Technology Preview. Not a solid release for actually putting to use. I've downloaded the CTP from MSDN but havn't installed it yet...

I have a copy of it because I am a member of Microsoft TechNet Plus . They send me all kinds of stuff. Vista hasn't been released yet, but TechNet members get what's called a "technology preview" copy of the softwarey.

It's probably the same one I got from the MSDN Subscriber Downloads site...

As with the previous CTPs, the December CTP is intended for use by developers, IT professionals and the technical community. Given the nature of software development and the feedback process, many of the features in this CTP will continue to evolve throughout the development cycle. End users interested in testing pre-release versions of Windows Vista should continue to wait until the beta 2 version becomes available.

Lucky...
Technet and MSDN subscriptions are so dang pricey I just can't justify it, although I would love it.
