Hi everyone, I plan to create a home office eventually and I am confused about whether I should buy a generator or a UPS (keeping in mind the cost and productivity) ?

Why I want to buy them?
To tell you the truth I lost nice projects thanks to the electricity problem here and I like to take control of my working environment and increase my earnings.

Please post and enlighten me with your knowledge about UPS and generators. I tried looking for a UPS on a local website and it just passed over my head.

I want to understand the following points in simple English
UPS:
Price
How long does it take to get fully charged
How long does the charge lasts if normal office functions are performed
Any extra tips are always welcome.

Generator:
Price
Types
Cost of each type
Noise creation (I have seen some loud ones)

I need the above mentione for 2-3 hours daily.

My PC specs are
core i3 3ghz
4 gb ram
500gb HDD
24x DVD Rom/writer
8600gt video card
Not sure about power supply it came with the casing.

Thank you in advance to everyone who tries to help ^_^.

Not sure I will be much help Arifeen, we also have power outages, am interested myself. I did a research, have couple of links. The first link has the prices, the second link, top far right has a "Help me choose" which might help you and me.

UPS

UPS Systems & Batteries

As far as a generator goes, we have thought of buying a small one to keep the water and refrigeration going. My opinion would be the UPS would be the best bet. Perhaps someone in the forum has one and can explain more in detail.

Depends on the battery size and capacity.

Depends on the battery capacity and what equpment is running on the inverter.

You need to calculate or measure the wattage that the machine(s) use, plus the monitor(s) and any lighting necessary.

The wattage output of the PSU is NOT what it uses, it is the power output at 12 vots DC

Thank you very much Giselle the links provided me the information I was searching for, I understand my requirements now and what to look for when buying a UPS.

Thank you Chris it seems after buying a UPS. I can buy the battery with more capacity. Since buying the most expensive one is out of my reach I choose to upgrade the Battery only.

Jim I like how laptops are charged and everything but I am comfortable with Desktops Although I am jealous of that charging ability and being able to work even if there is no electricity for 2-3 hours.

I am going to conduct a survey of all the Internet cafe around my neighborhood and find out the monthly cost of their generators.

Thank you for all the help ^__^.

I researched for the UPS in my city and found out that, technical training center creates a UPS which can provide 9 hours+ Time and is very cheap

Now I just have to find people using that UPS and collect all the necessary data.

Thank you for all the help.
