Currently, I am using free avast antivirus so far it's working well, I don't know if there's any better one. Could you share what is the best free antivirus for windows?

you can try avira, avg, or try searching in google. lots of anti virus out there.

I use avast also, and i think it works really good, so far i have not gotten any viruses.

AND I don't know what has happened to AVG recently, but in the past two months I've cleaned four machines that were supposedly protected by AVG and were infected to the point where a parallel install was the only way to recover the machine and files.

Even I am using free avast antivirus and I am happy with that. I would suggest you to stay with avast antivirus and keep on updating it time to time. The other free antivirus available in the market are AVG and kaspersky. And you are looking for more secure and quality then you can also with Norton or Panda Anti-virus.

I believe that is another + for paid anti-viruses.

I am using the Kaspersky antivirus.

Avast and AVG have the same business model (paid business & server version) that supports a free version.

For free antivirus I would definitely go with Avast Free, but for paid one, ummm, Kaspersky would be (and is) the best for me.

I hate Avast. I use Dr.Web to check my computer and Kaspersky only because it offers a full pretection on my pc

I think McAffe is the best antivirus software for the windows. As it has updated database and also it has ability to delete all kind of trojans and viruses.

I was previously using a licensed version of Kaspersky 2009, but I'm not quite satisfied. I don't know about the 2010 version, but if you are familiar with the "Project1" virus, I could not get rid of it just by using Kaspersky, and every time I insert a removable drive (USB flash drives, etc.), there are always an "autorun.inf" file and a hidden and system folder USBVAULT. The inf file auto-runs the "us.exe" file in the USBVAULT. Though I always managed to delete them manually (using cmd) before ejecting, they will just return to the flash drive when I insert it again to my PC. I don't know if it's just me or Kaspersky itself. I always update my virus database at least once a week, but the problem keeps on coming back.

That's why when the license had expired, I uninstalled Kaspersky and switched to Avast in which I became more satisfied. Avast performs well, and it can even scan your whole computer just before it loads the OS, and it had removed the troublesome "Project1" virus in my PC. Also, the USBVAULT + autorun.inf files stopped returning to the flash drives. That's why I vote for Avast as one of the best free antivirus.

That's exactly what happened to me a few years ago, I caught a virus that no antivirus managed to deal with, however, I ran across Panda and he killed the bastard. Panda is quite ok, but is so hungry for resources...
