Scan your computer for viruses (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/). Don't forget rootkits too.

They can use your connection for DDoS attacks and sending Spam. Both take your connection speed and stomp on it for a while.

There are many ways to increase the speed of your Internet connection.
1. Remove the files from temp folder
2. Use Broadband connection
3.Generally, it is seen that net connection are much more faster in off peak hours.

Are you sharing the internet with other people? That will affect your connection speed. If not, upgrade your internet service (pay more) for a better connection speed.

Hi

My computer was also creating problem and giving very slow internet speed and I scanned my computer and also deleted web browsing history and doing this I achieved my purposes and now my PC is giving good results. all suggestions given above really work.

One more tip which i came to know from one of my friend is that: Keep as less shortcuts and icons as possible on the desktop. It also causes the computer in lower speed also in connection.

How? If pages are loaded fully, they do not have any effect to connection speed (unless they refresh themselves every X seconds).

It is quite sure that when all applications are fully loaded they don't affect the internet speed and but sometimes when we open too many sites at a time then it may create little problem but Firefox covers this problem.
