I have 47 machines all Apple Mac's, not Apple Hacks. They have not fallen down with panther or tiger or leopard for 3 years+, I am responsible for all the IT in this company, however the office staff all use Windows, there are 22 PC's total ranging from NT4, XP sp1, sp2, sp3, Vista, 2003 Server and server 2008. Every single one of these PC's has fallen down from everything ranging from viruses, to Blue Screens to more viruses etc. I figured that it had to be me, I called in an external IT company to reinstall every one of them, after 2 weeks the 1st fell down, 4 months later they had reinstalled 6 of them. I called in another IT company, this time a very well known expensive one, 4 months after all pc's were reinstalled I had 2 down, they say out of 22 thats good going. I have more network activity from virus packages updating themselves and anti spyware apps than anything else. I would say that although pc's are in some cases cheaper than Macs, if you are in business and time is money then it is a false economy. Go Mac. I figured that it might be to do with hardware over software as the same pc's kept dying and others stayed up, so I switched every users box to a different user to see and found that windows users break windows more than Bill Gates gets blamed for. But even bad Mac users do not kill Macs, the other thing is that I have some super expensive PC hardware and those are just as unreliable, HP Proliant ML 350 G3 dual XEON, Operating system is server 2003, it has no operator, just running as a server, no monitor or keyboard, yet it still breaks once a year at least. I have just got the latest Proliant G5 range and guess what 2 days ago Windows server 2008 is dead, it went well it lasted an entire 5 weeks, installed professionally apparently, not by me. At this point I hate PC's, until I tried a hackintosh, wow the hardware is not to blame, the operating system or windows just blows, I have 4 hackintoshes running at home and have not died, not even once in over a year now. Now Mac is just as affordable as PC so there is no excuse, another interesting find is that running an application like Photoshop on the hardware when it was a PC was terrible and slow, now with the same hardware as a hackintosh it runs Photoshop fasater than some of the real macs. You figure it out, if I could I would change every pc to a mac, just to save the money on the 3 virus applications with a 2 year subscription fee or the extra bandwidth they use would be worth it. But wait here is something to think about, I have had pc's break regularly, I have had macs break very seldom but they have broken, but I had a spark ultra 20 running solaris and helios for 9 years without even 1 days trouble, no hanging, freezing, unresponsivness, nothing bad at all, except for the price of the hardware.
Anyway just my opinion, hope it helps someone.
