I completely disagree with your sentiments. I have been running Windows Vista since before it was officially released (I was in the beta), and I have had very few problems. There are some application incompatibilities, but that is mostly the application developer's fault rather than the OS developer's fault.
The error messages with "good application programs" is a result of the programs doing things that they shouldn't do, in general, like taking advantages of bugs in the memory management of the underlying operating system, rather doing thing the way they ought to. I think that Vista is substantially easier to use than XP, and that it runs well on my system. I recommend Vista to everyone I know, as it is a great upgrade in usability over XP.

I've had no problems with Vsita as well. I have a very slow time shutting down, but aside from that, Vista runs perfectly.

I wasn't sure about Vista when I got my new laptop last summer, but I figured I'd give it a try and see how it went. I have Home Premium. I have had very few problems with it. Once I figured out how to turn off all those stupid "allow, deny" warnings, that would come up when doing almost anything, it's been running pretty smoothly. The only thing that annoys me is some of it's networking problems with my desktop XP system and for some reason I can't print to a shared printer, even when I'm hard wired in to my router (ie. not running wirelessly).
I will say that you MUST install the compatibility updates and I'll be installing the service pack. It's a tad slow on start-up, and I have 2GIG of RAM in the laptop. It actually takes less time to shut down than my XP system. Overall though.. I can't really complain. I hate that with every OS they move things around in the menus and such, but that's just an adjustment in working, and not a big deal.

I run XP Home edition, my father in law recently bought an HP Pavillion with Vista. His HP has 1 GB of RAM and I'm not sure of the other stuff, but my computer (Compaq Presario 5000 US) has 191 MB of useful RAM and runs twice as fast as his new computer did days after he set it up. Im not sure what variables are at work here, and I'm not blaming it on Vista. But I think his new computer with a gig of RAM should run much faster than my 5-7± year old computer.
By running faster I mean simple tasks such as opening folders, starting the same programs etc.....I'm not comparing internet surfing or anything, he has cable internet and I have DSL...

My vista is running just fine. It took me a little while to get used to it, but I am satisfied now.

My config is similar but I dump in 4 GB of ram in Vista, performance is quite good, although I won't want to try it on older less powerful machines

I think your PC manfucaturer is at fault. I use the same configuration and I dont face any problems. Shutting Down and On are almost instant at my end.
If you want to increase the speed, put all the icons on your desktop into a single folder IT WORKS! |

I would suggest that whatever virus you have is the cause of your problems, and not your operating system itself. I've been using Vista for some time now, and other than UAC, I have nothing to complain about.

I run two computers on Vista, one on XP. The one's on vista are either about the same or slightly better than yours and they run just fine with Vista, none of the problems you mentioned I get.
I only use Vista for: Creating Music & Beats, some videogames. I still prefer XP for many of my uses but Vista is nice for music producton and some games. As for designing (graphic & web) I run on Mac ![]()
