I agree with you. Do not use Vista even if you own the most sophisticated hardware. A lot of people complain of lack of driver support to some important devices. Besides, it's not that stable as Windows XP.

i use 2gb of ram. but vista still is sloooow. i even have issues with hardware such as addon cards. once i even had to reformat because it doesnt recognize my hardware anymore. i think this is just usual for the first years of a microsoft OS, usually buggy at first and excels when there is another OS thats introduced.

I can't help but laugh when people say "OMG vista is slower than XP". Let me point something out to you.

Windows XP = 7 years old = designed to run on 7 year old hardware, so modern day hardware will have no problems running it. Hardware vendors have had a chance to tweak configurations to get the best performance.
Windows Vista = 1 year old = designed to run on modern day hardware.

When XP came out people cried "OMG XP is slow and I don't like it", but now Vista is out the same people who claimed XP is slow, claim Vista is slow and that they love XP.

I guarantee that in 7 years time, these same people will claim how Vista is the better OS than the latest Windows OS.

I found that vista looked good, it provided my computers drivers.. made my wifi work for the first time.. but was slow.. very slow. I have an inspiron 9300 and I couldn't do anything quickly. Plus the platform was kind of buggy. I switched to xp

I don't remember people complaining about how slow XP was during its release. It isn't just a coincidence that SO many people hate vista.. there definately wasn't a consensus like that on the Xp platform. Vista should be fine for modern, top of the line computers.. but the people have spoken to a large extent against Vista. "Vista" is a stupid name too.

Actually I can remember a lot of fuss being made because when XP was released.

Don't how the name "Vista" makes a different, even if you think its a stupid name.

Modern, top of the line computers don't run Vista. Even the ones that run Windows, run Windows Server 2003 or 2008. We have a client with (I'm not making this up!) 64 GB of RAM in their SQL Server machine. I'm sure it could run Vista just fine, but it doesn't.

That also changes any idea of what a top of the line computer is! A Dell with its integrated graphics card and shared memory doesn't count.

So is XP. On the other hand, Windows Server is a pretty good name.

many of my problems get resolved by the installation of first service pack for vista. But still there are some problems with my OS.

The file operation time of the OS get increased much after the installation of service pack. Also many errors, are now not with my computer.

Iam looking forward for their next service pack. Now my Vista giving OK performance, not the best.

Well I used Vista couple of months back and didn't perform well due lack of good hardware configurations. Vista is good only if you have strong compuer.

I am also looking forward to see next window launched this year maybe...
window 7.

Thanks

i do love using vista. in most cases, i have been satisfied using it. there are just some bugs in it but its not that problematic because i was using old hardware. i think its pretty neat with all the aero and added security. when i was in xp, i usually get hit with viruses galore, now its just a minicule number and don't get on my nerves such as drive renamers. i was freaking out before on my xp because my removable drives kept infecting my hard drive and no antivirus in the world helped.

anyway, vista has more security but needs more resources. even my 2 gigs of ram is sill not enough for multitasking.

I was actually ready to jump in and say "so far so good" with Vista until the OS crashed due to a kernel error, unfortunately the restore point did not work and I had to re-install the OS, here comes the worse part...

1) OS installs without error (great! create a restore point with base OS)
2) Patches (51) so far so good
3) Attempt to install the student version of Office (some vague error about the Spanish version cant install...abort install - 8 attempts failed)
4) Re-Install OS again without error (great again!)
5) Patches (51) again.
6) Attempt to install the student version of Office again (some vague error about the Spanish version cant install...abort install - 2 attempts failed)
7) Revert back to base OS
8) Attempt to install the student version of Office again (SUCCESS!)
9) Patch system
10) reboot...system cant boot due to patch error...oh no!!!
11) Google the error, looks like a ton of people are getting this boot up error on Dell laptops
12 total time: 9hrs roughly

I'm sticking with XP, at least that only takes like 40 mins to blow it away and get back up and running! I might even bring out my old Apple2e!

Your mileage may vary. Often with new technology rolling out everyday, you can get a significant increase in stability and performance in vista. This is reality on the computer industry, upgrade or be left out.

I love vista, I love being able to use the search bar to get apps.. like just enter "notepad" in the search bar and your notepad pops up.. same with dreamweaver, photoshop, flashfxp etc..

I think you need a better machine, and get a better version of vista to really enjoy it
I've spent about 900$ on my box with the os and it runs like a champ, I also have a kmv switch hooked up with the old xp box. Both run well but I would never drop vista to go back to xp now
