I was actually ready to jump in and say "so far so good" with Vista until the OS crashed due to a kernel error, unfortunately the restore point did not work and I had to re-install the OS, here comes the worse part...
1) OS installs without error (great! create a restore point with base OS)
2) Patches (51) so far so good
3) Attempt to install the student version of Office (some vague error about the Spanish version cant install...abort install - 8 attempts failed)
4) Re-Install OS again without error (great again!)
5) Patches (51) again.
6) Attempt to install the student version of Office again (some vague error about the Spanish version cant install...abort install - 2 attempts failed)
7) Revert back to base OS
8) Attempt to install the student version of Office again (SUCCESS!)
9) Patch system
10) reboot...system cant boot due to patch error...oh no!!!
11) Google the error, looks like a ton of people are getting this boot up error on Dell laptops
12 total time: 9hrs roughly
I'm sticking with XP, at least that only takes like 40 mins to blow it away and get back up and running! I might even bring out my old Apple2e!
