I'm not sure, but was wondering this myself. You need a special cable, I do know that much.

You would need a converter cable / box, depending upon the available interfaces on your monitor and TV. So what interfaces do you use ?

Depends on type of your monitor different solutions exist. What monitor type do you have?

The easiest way to do this is with an s-video cable - provided that your video card has an s-video connection.

Yes, I do this all the time. An S-Video cable is what you are looking for. However, some TVs do not have/allow S-Video connections, so make sure you check your TV first. Not only the TVs though, but even some laptops don't have it.

Your TV should have a Video/input option that would say something like "S-VID."]

We just switched my pc over last night to the TV because we've already packed our DVD player and wanted to watch a movie.. It's the first time I had hooked it up, wasn't entirely sure it would work..lol

Used an S-Video cable between the video card and the back of the TV

Disiecta Membra,

Here is a list I found on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&sear...%20cord&page=1
--------------------------------------

Yeah, I had read something about the possibility of having to hook up an HDMI from my computer to my television set. But, I wanted to see if there was another way to do this.

I am using an HPw1907 monitor (which is probably why I accidentally scaled the website in my signature So Wide!) lol

I'll have to look into getting an S Cord, because i've been dreaming of putting everything I see on the internet on a 57" t.v. lol

Now, as far as Sound is concerned. What cord would I be looking to hook my computer with, and attach to my t.v., or surround system; to achieve that?

I had this good idea (that millions have also had before me) when I realized the internet allowed you to view Whatever You Wanted, Whenever You Wanted; where the television was always giving you whatever It wanted, when it wanted.

So, i've seriously thought about just ditching the cable and pretending the internet was my television provider

If you have a local Radio Shack, ask them about the cable that's needed. I believe it has a white and red end (and the other end goes into your TV-out port on your graphics card).

I used to watch movies on my TV through my computer and it was awesome. Now, not so much... no time.... too.... many.... forums/blogs/etc

Ya S video would be a good choice, and if you have a newer TV many have VGA inputs that you can run from your computer to your TV. The VGA will have better quality Im pretty sure, both both would be fine.

Would you happen to know what causes the VGA to have a quality advantage over the S-Cord?

i'm not a techie myself. So, it would be interesting to know.

S-vid is good. I've also seen our IT guys hook up a simple DVI-to-HD adpater from the DVI port off the computer directly to a HD compatible monitor. it was pretty slick with a good quality image. Pretty cool.

My 50" HD television from Samsung has a VGA connection in the back. If yours does, use a spare VGA cable to connect the computer to the television and use it as normal.

I tend to use S-Video out on the laptop, and I have a S-Video to scart lead that works well, though it depends how im using it really.

VGA does have a limited resolution, where S-Video can offer better resolution/image.
