Okay, so I was commenting on another thread where the question was, which OS was better. Anyway, I've decided to replace Windows with OS X. First, what kind of problems am I going to have with my drivers? Is there somewhere I can go to get drivers if my manufacturer doesn't offer them? Any suggestions about what I should do (besides backing up.) before I install Mac OS X?

Why in god's name would you want to?

I really don't think it's possible to get OSX to run on a PC that Apple didn't sell you anyway.

You can with an Intel processor. And I want too because I've never even seen a Mac except on TV. I'm curious.

Maybe. Remember, even if Mac stole the idea to use Intel CPUs and ATI GPUs, they still haven't got around to adopting the BIOS. Most people expected BootCamp not to work because of this fact. Even if a Mac is able to run a virtualized copy of Windows, doesn't mean real PC hardware will run OSX.

Nope you cannot legally run OS X on a non-Apple computer. It's just Apple's way. If you really want Mac OS X, you'll have to buy an iMac or a Macbook or a Mac Mini or something. They are worth it if you were going to purchase a new PC anyway, but if you just want to change operating systems, then it's a bit expensive really.

You might read about running OS X on a PC - this is done by cracking Apple's algorithms etc. so that it can run on non-Apple hardware. However, it is of course illegal and not recommended.

It's very easy to do, all you need is a copy of OS X for intel processors, and you can turn any x86 (PC) rig into a hackintosh. Google around, there's hundreds of guides explaining how to get the drivers properly setup, it's very simple really.

check on ebay or craiglists for used macs if you're really curious and have a few bucks to spend. A brand new mac mini doesn't cost very much anyway. You can also go to your local apple store if you're very curious. They have lots of display computers with internet connections and a nice variety of software pre-installed.

Wow - Steve Jobs is even more restrictive than Bill Gates is! At least Bill only wants you to buy his software - he's never said "You can buy my OS, but you can't do anything with it unless you also buy the [overpriced] hardware from me."

There's a useful article on how you can set up a Hackintosh.

Personally, unless you have spare parts, I wouldn't risk the operation. I just bought myself a MacBook Pro!
