I wasn't too sure where this should go on the forum, so if I'm posting it in the wrong place, please move it.

I took some video with my digital camera and I'd like to edit it just a bit. My silly husband was making dumb noises in the background of one and the other I just need to crop it.

I've successfully edited video with iMovie off of a digital camcorder, but I can't seem to load the MPG files from my digial camera. I'm guessing it's not compatible or I'm just not doing something right?

I only have iMovie and Flash for video editing. Will either of these work with what I need?

If you have iMovie I'm thinking more than likely that you have a Mac, in which case I would suggest iMovie but I have known Macs to have problems with .MPG files in the past. Flash won't do the job, not effectively at least.

But if you have a Windows PC (or have access to one at least) then windows movie maker can import most footage types but you may have a bit of trouble editing it. I would suggest Adobe Premiere Pro but of course that's a tad expensive. Other than that I don't tend to use other editing progranms because they all tend to be middle of the road, missing out on key features.

As I said, iMovie won't load the MPG files.

Well to be fair I'm not totally Mac literate so I'm not the best person to advice you. A friend of mine edited films on something called Final Cut Pro on his Mac I'm fairly certain, again that might cost you some money though.

Alternative ways around this are like I said obtaining access to a Windows PC or creating a Windows installation on your Mac and then edit, or finding a free convertor for the .MPG file, but it may lose quality. Is a dilemma but this one of those little problems with Macs...

I don't need anything crazy. These are just two little videos. So paying for a program isn't an option, I don't do video editing or anything.

I also don't work with Windows anymore.

So perhaps someone with iMovie experience could help me out and explain what I'm doing wrong?
