Hey, I want to create a theme for Windows to offer as a download on my website with certain themed colours and backgrounds... I just have a few questions.

If I save a theme in XP (right click the desktop>properties and click save theme), will that only work on XP, or Vista too? (Long shot I know but hey!)

What will that save? Just the stuff you can edit under the 'properties' of the desktop?

and finally if someone downloads it and uses it will it just load on their desktop?

Thanks for the help!

A little advice... Be prepared to offer support for those downloading your themes. Remember people's computers are often full of system bugs, there will always be errors in downloading and just those who are easily confused regardless of how simplistic you make it. Nice idea, I hope it works out!! Do you have a link?

I don't think you can create a universal theme, as both operating systems are fairly different.

However i could also be wrong .

It depends on how you create it.

Are you creating it to work with uxtheme.dll and msstyles, or are you using a third party program to save it in their format for use with others who also use that program.

usually if your actually creating a msstyles theme you will use resource editor to edit and replace graphics/animations/sounds/icons in an already existent theme, in that case you can do a theme > save as from the properties menu, if it doesnt allow you to choose a location you can find it here: C:\Windows\Resource\Themes

If your just editing some of the options in the properties menu, then theme > save as works as well.
