First off.... Starteak.exe uses up 100% cpu usage when its not needed when i log in my user account. I terminated it and it worked fine. Now regsrv32.exe uses uneeded cpu usage out of nowhere... Oh and sometimes explorer.exe uses 100% for no reason.... any ideas???

Short answer: get a Mac - it just works.

Long answer: this might help. I'd also recommend you have a virus/spyware scan - update your antivirus and do a scan and also get a scan done with an online service like HouseCall. I've had similar problems with explorer.exe running at a stupidly high percentage of the CPU - thankfully I don't have such annoying problems on my Macbook

Have you ever tried a Mac out of interest? If not, I recommend it - even if it's just once. I used to despise Mac and I'd never even used one - now I adore them

Dont refer people to mac because fanboyism works for you....kthx

Commonly 100% cpu usage constantly is caused by a service or bad driver. I would update video, audio, network drivers.

Control + alt + delete, sort by memory usage under the processes tab, post any other process that seems to be eating more than the normal amount of resources.

Start > Run > type > msconfig

Click the startup tab, find starteak or the driver it runs under and uncheck it. Click apply, ok, and restart.

I believe it is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

The regsvr32.exe is usually related to some form of malware (or is the malware, not sure which) either way it’s harmful to your computer, have you tried cleaning your PC lately? Or running an antivirus program?

Why not? It’s not like he had any affiliate links in his post, or works for Apple or anything. The OP was having PC problems and Dan was trying to offer him a better solution, I don’t see anything wrong with that.

Regsvr32.exe is the windows registry process, its job is to register and unregister dlls and active x (ocx) files. It does sometimes have to do with malware which is why I am suggesting you read the antispyware guide, and post a HJT log.

Interesting how the original post was not about what kind of mac to buy or why he should buy one, he came here seeking help for his pc. So referring him to a mac solves what for that problem? Instead of posting here for help, he can post in the mac fix it forums?

Dan wasn't saying getting a mac would fix the PC problem, he's just saying that they don't have these type of system errors. It was just a friendly suggestion, in case the OP didn't want to risk having to deal with any of these kinds of problems again, as they may return.

(And we also gave him help for his PC errors )

Thing is, inefficient code is inefficient code no matter what platform it runs on. An identical situation is handled completely different depending on the operating system
  • If it's a Mac, it's obviously bad software
  • If it's Windows, it's obviously a bad operating system
Funny how Mac gets off the hook automatically and Windows takes the blame for software that runs on it. Interesting imbalance, no?
