i am trying to import dicom images into flash. as this is not a standard format, images must be rendered pixel by pixel. to do this though, the images must be imported to the library. however, flash will not import this to the library as it does not recognise the file format.

any ideas on how to do this?

If you are embedding them in Flash it is pointless retaining them in DICOM format, convert them to JPEGs then embed those.

NOTE: For those who are wondering;

DICOM is Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine and is used for transfering CT scan, Ultrasound and MRI scan images. It is a format where the file header also contains the information about the patient, type of scan dimensions etc ( similar kind of thing to EXIF information in Digital Camera image headers )

I used to work for a digital radiology company and there are image viewers already out there that handle DICOM easily. As Chris said, you're not going to be able to keep the DICOM format and pull them into Flash. Is your client insisting on Flash ?

yes, my client is insisting on flash. im trying to render the image pixel by pixel using the bitmap class, essentially flash is a graphics application and so is capable of doing this. any ideas are greatly appreciated.
