Hi all,

I'm not sure if I'm posting my question on the right forum but guess I'll find out soon enough

Here's my frustrating problem - I am making a website for a freind of mine and all was well until today I noticed something strange happen when I browse to the site.

When the site is loading - down in the bottom left hand bar of my browser, instead of the usual message connecting to ...website.com.etc I get messages saying

--->waiting for data from ntp.sysip.net ....>transferring data from ntp.sysip.net or dns.sysip.net<----

I am sure this hasn't occurred before and think it is making my friends website load much slower.

I have tried googling the sysip address but am getting no answers.

Could anyone here possibly enlighten me as to what is causing it and how I could fix it please ?

It would be very much appreciated as I find it disquieteningly irritating.

I'd need to see the site itself to be sure, but it sounds like there's something on the page that is linking to the ntp.sysip.net site. It's common to see what you saw in the status bar if the page is loading something from that other site.

Assuming the page is purposely trying to grab something from that site then it's nothing to worry about though, you're probably right that it's causing the page to load slower. That generally happens when you load content from another site.

Thanks for your reply VanGogh,

I have no content from any other site at all. No outgoing links at this stage either ... but I have emptied my browser cookies & cache and the problem seems to have disappearred for now - I hope it's permanent.

I didn't consider the possibility that it could be spyware on my own pc because I run anti-spyware frequently but in sheer desperation I thought maybe cookies & cache needed emptying manually. It seems to have worked.

Initially I imagined it must be some sort of website hijack or hack but am relieved to have discovered it was just a nasty cookie type thing.

Thankyou very much for your help

I hope the sittuation is fixed too. I hadn't though about the spyware type things it could have been either. I was with you in thinking it had something to do with the site.

If I does happen again come back and post in the Computer forums here. I'm not sure I'd be the one to help with the issue, but there are plenty of people here who could and the more general computer section here might be the place to get the answers.

Hopefully though the issue is fixed for good.

NTP is Network Time Protocol and DNS is Domain Naming Service

So the server was probably trying to synch up with the upstream bandwidth provider of the host where your site is located. It's likely that they were having some issues and it was slow accessing these servers.

I have this problem too.
It seems to hijack download of Adaware SE. Gets in the way of everything. I eventually downloaded Adaware SE which identified several tracking cookies. Seemed to shut down the stupid sysip.net ... for a little while. It keeps popping back however and getting in the way of everything.
The effects are:
- slow performance
- occasional ads that pop up. on the top of the browser, you can click on Skip this Ad if you want to.
Not sure how I got this or how to remove. Any suggestions anyone??? THank you.

This doesn't appear to be spyware on your computer. It looks like it's something to do with the internet servers that provide data. There is an ongoing discussion @ http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188184

Right then, after trying pretty much everything to get rid of it, from using anti spyware/malware apps to even formatting.. nothing worked. Until i read 2 posts from this topic:
http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188184

I managed to get rid of it, well i hope.

This is what I did and it seems to be gone.

1. Clear ALL your cookies, cache, temporary internet files from BOTH IE and Firefox, if you have it.
2. Go to Start > Run, then type ipconfig.exe /flushdns
3. Reset your router to factory defaults
4. Reboot

That -should- fix it, as it seems to be stored in your routers DNS table.
But to be sure keep checking your cookies for any left by dns.sysip.net, or block it from your firewall and see if pages hang.
