How do I add sound effects to my website. Like, when clicking a button/link, it plays a .wav (I'm using Ajax, so the website won't refresh, sorta )


And of course, I need to control when the sound will be played, not when the website loads, or when the user clicks on a "play" button. Or here's a better example actually: I'm makeing a PM-system, which an Ajax-script will check for new messages every 15th second or something, and when a PM appears, I want a sound to be played - like when someone is sending you a message on msn.

Not too sure whether something that I've described above exists, but I got to try. Btw. I don't want flash (unless it plays in the background / not visible for the user and is very functional to use).
