I know there are scripts available to protect e-mail address(es) on a website from spiders/robots.

Can someone post the code for me or point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

My favorite:

Install filters in your email program. I always say you can't go wrong with email filters.

The absolutely most effective means is to not place an email address anywhere on your site, use contact forms instead.

You can also create an image of your email and use that instead of the actual text. Robots and spiders can't read the image. Anyone who wants to email you will have to manually type in your address though.

Unfortunatly, there are no 'good' ones.

What I mean by that is spammers are constantly updating there bots to deal with these scripts so that they still harvest all the email addresses just as they would if you used a common "mailto:example@email.com" link.

The flaw with all these scripts and the challenge there creators are trying to overcome sounds simple but isnt. The script has to encrypt your email address so that all browsers can read it and still display it properly but spambots just think it's a load of nonsense / not an email address.

Most scripts just use special characters which spambots adaped to long ago (well, most of them).

At the end of the day these scripts are easyly defeated by spambots and it really is a problem.

However, as many forum members have pointed out, there are a few tricks to make the addresses invisible to spambots. I'm just going to elaborate on one of the points made;

It may seem a bit obvious, but if you do decide to use an image, DONT use alt text with the email address in. I have known people who have done this in the past who when I have scanned there website with some software that acts like a bot (note the ACTS) it has still detected there email address and if it were a real bot, would have harvested there email.

In my oppinion, and as Republikin said, you would be best off using contact forms instead.

Javascript could go some way to Hiding your email address, But some bots will still find it as this way of stopping spider bots is quite well known.

The adress and mailto: link are broken up in the source and put together in the users browser.

Well, you could make a PHP script and using str_replace, replace @ with -AT-or something like that. But once again, the users would have to type it in manually.

Actually you wouldn't need PHP to do that. You can just do it manually - it would probably be easier.
Besides, a simple regex pattern would probably pick it up anyway.

Any half decent spider would be able to make out "user AT there DOT com". I think the best approach is via contact forms where no addresses in any shape or form are present.

You can then notify yourself to expect an email from Joe Bloggs then.

Yeah contact forms is the way to go, although now the bots that auto fill forms are around, now we need to add code protection to contact forms :/

There is one vulnerability with contact forms too.

Check out

To prevent email injection, you can try captcha enabled forms.
