Hello all-

Sorry for the newbie questions. I need to setup a member login on a site and I have never tried it before. Members would be giving access to basic html pages and probably a forum. I was wondering what is the best way to go about it. Do you need a datbase for that? Is it just a password protected directory? Is there a site somewhere that I can find more info about this...with tutorials maybe?

Thanks!

Not necessarily. You could just put all the items into a new directory (i.e. www.yoursite.com/allaccess) that contains an index html file showing all the links. Then you can use a password protected directory. You'll have to make up the passwords everytime someone wants to join though. I use this method for my clients sites when they want an administration area for forums/chats/and site news that is not viewable to the web...

Hrm... Well, both are viable options. A protected directory would allow "access to basic html pages" and the like... If he were going to let them have access to the forum directly using the same user/password combo, then sessions would be necessary.
