I've gotten all of the files uploaded, but when I try to access the installation file, I get a message saying that I am forbidden from viewing it, even though I OWN THE WEBSITE IT'S ON. So, if anyone can help me, please post!

Hi SmokingTequila,
Sounds like a CHMOD problem to me. Set the permissions of your installation file (and maybe your config file, if there is one) to 777.

Most FTP clients you can just select the file , right click and ther eshould be an option for file permissions, or CHMOD. From there, enter the numer 777 or if there are checkboxes, check 'em all.
If it still doesn't work, see if there's a .htaccess file there, one of my scripts wouldn't let me view it because I had htaccess protection, though if you just downloaded it and uploaded it, this shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Cagez. I don't know just yet if it worked, cause I got frustrated yesterday and accidentally deleted all the files, but I checked and I actually do understand what you mean!
EDIT: I keep trying to change the permissions from 775 to 777, but it just keeps resetting to 775

You should be OK with 775. A lot of forum scripts say "change to 777 but you can use 755 if needed". I'm pretty sure Invision is the same way.

Unless your installing and you want the config file written for you, 775 gices permissions to read and execute but not write, so you won't be able to let the config made for you.
When you put in the CHMOD option, does it ask for a numbet? If it does, try putting in 0777, mabe thats the problem.

Okay, let me go try that right quick...
EDIT: 0777 won't fit, they have it fixed to only allow 3 digits. Also, I tried putting in other numbers, like 575, or 557, but no matter what I put in, it ALWAYS resets to 775.

Hey SmokingTequila:
Here is another idea, I am not sure if this would work, but you might try phpBB rather that invision. I find it to be a little easier to install and modify. Plus they are very helpful at the phpBB forum.
Then again, if Invision is not working for you, I don't know if phpBB will!!!

I already tried phpBB, and I have the same problem with it.

If you have Perl, I recommend going with Ikonboard instead. Every file you upload get's CHMOD-ed to "755" which all hosting companies accept.

Thanks for the idea, but it's not quite what I'm looking for, as it can only password-protect some forums. I'm looking for something that can completely hide forums, and only people who have permission can even see them, let alone access them.

Hi,
I would suggest to use YaBB.
You can get it as a PHP board:
http://www.yabbse.org
or as a perl forum:
http://www.yabbforum.com
In my opinion one of the very best boards there are for free.
And it will hide forums from users that don't have permission to access them.
You will also find a whole list of mods for this forum.

That doesn't work, because I'm using GeoCities as the host.

Well, that's true.
But you could sign up for another free webspace and put your board on that webspace.
There are several good ones out there. But remember: The more is being offered to you, the less quality is being offered.
If you decide to sign up for another one, make sure to take one with less quantity but more quality.

Could someone list a few, because the only free hosts that I know of are Geocities, Angelfire, and Tripod, and YaBB doesn't work any any of them.

Well, since it still isn't working, I must be doing something wrong...
I filled in all of the things right in the Settings file, so, if anyone can help me, please help!
BTW, this is what I get everywhere, not just in Geocities:
