Good Morning!

I have the following dedicated server.
http://servers.aplus.net/premium.html

But my server seems to be lagging on the time. My site is around 1 to 2 megs to fully load, and I get 45,000 people plus per day. What are some good things I can do to try and trouble shoot and find out why apache/web server isn't loading my site faster?

Thanks!

perhaps if so many many people visit it, it gets overloaded, it also depends on the sever OS, and version, etc. talk to aplus.net admin's. maybe they can help

I would start looking into optimizing mySql first, and then move to the apache configuration file. There are a ton of articles on optimizing MySql and Apache if you do a google search. You'll just have to play around and find the settings that are right for your particular site.

if your problem is bandwidth related, there is not much you can do, you have to talk with your provider
if it is CPU load, then some apache tuning should fix it
the problem could also be from the site programming(some script badly written)
if your server is unix/linux you could start the investigation with: top, iptraf, ab

start by running uptime and check your load averages. Also, run the top utility to see what your largest time consumers are. Make sure you sort so that largest CPU is on top. Not all OSes have this as a default. Additionally, I like to increase the update interval for this to something like 30 seconds.

If your NOC is any good, they can help you diagnose the problem. They'll be glad to tell you that you need more of something.

You mention that your site is 1 or 2 meg to load? Why so big? remember, dialup users will take forever to load your site and during that time, they will hold a connection open and an apache process. You could be running out of memory.
