Hi all!

A friend and I are currently putting together a website and have hit a stumbling block.

We are trying to create a virtual airline for Flight Simulator Enthusiasts, and we want to give ourselves the edge that none of the others have, we want to implement an online booking system. (please note that the actual bookings will not be real as such, they are just an added sense of realism to the site/airline).

--==[Problem
In addition to the above we have scoured the net for any help or available examples for download, (For examples of the sort of thing we are after see http://www.freedomair.co.nz, http://www.qantas.co.nz, http://www.jetstar.co.nz or http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/ ) and other than finding simple site searches, we can't find what we're after. We already have created our timetables of flights that are available, we just need a way to make it so that people can search and see if flights are available and book them also.

--==[Bigger Problem
We have no experience whatsoever when it comes to taking the design/coding etc of a site above an intermediate level use of MS Frontpage...



If there is anyone out there who gets the gist of what we're after and is able to offer some suggestions as to easy ways to help us achieve what we're after it would be much appreciated...

I think I understand what you're doing.

The only thing I can think of is using PHP and MySQL to store the flight times into a database, then create a program that lets users search and find anything with a specific time. If you want help with this, I will help, as is isn't too hard.

Thanks for that, and yeah, if you could help that would be much appreciated, as i said i'm not quite up with the play when it comes to doing things above sort of a basic level, i'm slowly teaching myself, but this in itself is quite problematic, i would pm you but i can't because i don't have a minimum of five posts...

But it sounds like u have the right idea of what i'm after. If you have been to any of the sites that i listed you will see that you can search for a flight on a given day to a specific location and it returns either specific matches to the day you selected or the days before or after...

I have spoken to a couple of my friends locally but as most of them are students coming close to finishing their degree's etc they just don't have the time, and i am running out of time to sort out how to do it myself. Also because we are not in this for profit we can't afford to take on professional services either.

I haven't scanned completely the rules so don't know what will happen if i post my email address for you to contact me on, so i will just ride it out until i have five posts, or if you are not in breach of rules you could send me your email address so that i can send you flight numbers and times etc.

In terms of updating it at a later date would it be simple enough to add in further flights? We are looking to expand as time goes by, and this in turn means more flights, so it would be necessary, if you had time, to show me what i would need to edit. Sorry if this sounds like my being a pain, but i am an absolute beginner :S

hey thanks for that, have googled till i almost died and there is nothing even closely resembling what i'm after, though if you have a suggestion to a different search string, or a link, i'm open to it!!

And as for paying, we are a not-for profit group for enthusiasts, maybe later on down the track, but not right now, especially not when there are nice people on here willing to give a helping hand
