301/302 redirect

hi all, im looking to redirect my subdomain home page ... www.homepage.co.uk to www.homepage.co.uk/forum temporary ... is this possible? it is a subdomain .. i have access to the 'main' domain htaccess file but not sure what to put!

The 301 redirect is to permanently redirect..

Code:

Redirect 301 /index.htm http://www.homepage.co.uk/forums/

whereas the 302 is just temporary..

Code:

Redirect 302 /index.htm http://www.homepage.co.uk/forums/

although ive read google doesnt like 302 redirects.

or better still you go to ur domain panel thats makes life more easier

why not just...

<? header (Location: http://someothersite.com"); ?>

I mean so long as DNS is answering just redirect it that way .. no?

yep you can do that BUT that will be a 302 redirect

to 301 in php is

Code:

header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location: http://www.somesite.tld");
exit()
