Is it possible that I could use Carbon Copy Cloner to mirror my hard drive on my G4 and put it on my G3 which is my back-up computer?

If so, how is it done???

Do you have two hard drives? Do you have a program that will allow your to mirror your hard drive? Get these key elements and you should be good. My dad does this all the time, but he is brilliant so what can I say.

G3s and G4s are Macs aren't they?
I know you can't really do this on a PC with Windows cos Windows installes a specific HAL.DLL (Hardware Access Layer) for each set of hardware. (Usually) works fine provided your hardware is exactly the same though...

CMS makes a 'Drive Clone' system for a PC that works extremely well. They use proprietary software to allow you to make a cloned copy of your PC harddrive (normally your C drive) using their Automatic Backup System software. I use an external drive connected to a laptop and when my harddrive bit it a few months ago I was able to take the harddrive out of my CMS backup, swap it into my PC and re-boot to my last backup.... Total downtime - approximately 2 minutes....

I believe that the Carbon Copy program referenced by rachelturner is similar to the CMS system that I use but am not familiar with the program. (Rachel - - If I am correct I suggest that you contact the vendor and get the installation and operating instructions for the program)...

Another program is Norton Ghost. You could also ditch the mac and set up a RAID array.

I was unable to make Norton Ghost create a clone on an external disk drive using USB 1.0. (My ThinkPad doesn't have USB 2.0)

IOMEGA technical support people claim that they never advertized that the Rev Drive wouldn't work with 1.0 - - I pointed out that they also did NOT tell me that it wouldn't work on 1.0.....

Anybody want to buy an IOMEGA Rev Drive??

cptnwinky is right about the RAID - - My next computer will be custom built using RAID technology and my ThinkPad (while very useful for traveling) will be relegated to a backup....
