Is there a way to implement direct file download for smartphones? Not automatic download of course, that would be an awful and dangerous idea

But lets say on a website for local musicians I would like the user to be able to browse/preview the songs and download MP3-files on his mobile phone.

Could this be done, or is syncing via iTunes etc. the only way?

Let me know please. Could it be achieved with PhoneGap or Sencha or some other framework maybe?
