what do you think differences between a coder and developer? Or both are same?

a coder is a developer...i think your trying to ask developer vs designer maybe??

What are your definitions of a coder and a developer ?
Or, more importantly, what are the differences you perceive between those 2 words.

A "developer" would definitely be a "coder" but a "coder" might not be a "developer"

I would put differences at;
A developer should be able to make an abstract idea or brief description into a functional application whereas a coder may simply be capable of taking pseudo code or a schema and turning it into working code.

I have worked with a few people over the years who could turn a flow chart into working code but would struggle to get from "I want a login process" to working code.

I think this question is a little too simplistic in its assumption, but here's a reduction:

1. A developer doesn't need to be constantly monitored, and will get out ahead of a project's needs by coming up with creative solutions to problems. A developer is a master of prophylactic thinking (thinking ahead), and doesn't need to be constantly told what to do.

2. A coder knows how to do stuff, and has many tools to do so, but needs to be told exactly what to do. He or she usually has less experience or less ability to think ahead. These are usually junior developers, but some programmers or other coders (example: HTML specialists) never get past the "coding stage" for some reason. They don't think creatively about problems, and tend to be dogmatic in their assessments of things.
