I am passing a javascript array via ajax to a php script. I am looking for a solution that will convert a javascript array to a php array.

You should look at the json_encode and json_decode functions for PHP 5+. JSON, which stands for JavaScript Object Notation, is becoming the standard method of communication between JavaScript and server-side scripts.
