when html started off it had loads of browser specific tags - for exmaple marquee works on ie but not netscape, the dreaded blink which use to poison the web only worked on netscape
netscape interprets certain aspects of html differently - especially table widths and aligns
you should try and get into the habit to check your site on at least 3 different browsers - internet explorer, netscape and opera
netscape actually uses a browser called mozilla and aol have started using this as their default browser. Many webmasters say that for say 10% of the web who doesnt use ie its a waste of time programming for all browsers but to me - losing out on 10% of potential visitors is just plain stupid
everyone makes out that designing for all browsers is a pain but it really isnt - all you have to do is avoid putting in ie or netscape only tages and check the look of your site on every browser now and then
good luck
