I was wondering what database solutions any of our users are using for your sites?

Fonz, what do you use for your Affiliate Review pages? I see it is in PHP...

I may be starting a new project (non-webmaster related site) in which I would like to use a database for articles/updates...

Personally, everything I use is custom built. Free Webmaster Help uses PHP with a bit of Apache trickery and a large MySQL database (12 tables) to provide content management in 3 different forms (articles, tools and tutorials).

Free-Webhosting.info and Script Avenue are also PHP/MySQL based, but are much more simple.

If you need any pointers or would like to see a copy of the code (very very messy code!) just let me know.

I use Cold Fusion or ASP for most of my sites.
As far as Database goes, I use MS SQL Server 2000. Or Access 2000 (mostly for testing purposes)

I use a relatively tame PHP and MySQL combination, not very original but established combinations are always the best

So my question is: why MySQL over something like PostgreSQL?

Well, my host provides MySQL and PHP, so naturally when I started to get into database driven websites I simply went with what my host offered. Another reason, which makes sense for me to go with MySQL, is that there are so many books out there on PHP that also include a MySQL chapter or two - so I felt I was getting my money's worth!

PHP has built in support for MySQL also, so this meant that I didn't have to do anything difficult or over my head - I was just starting to use PHP so I didn't want to confuse myself!

Well if anyone has an extra mysql db and is feeling generous or wants to trade for some graphic designs then let me know. My host doesn't offer it but they offer php but freesql.org is hopeless anymore.
