Well, there are a variety of different approaches you can take. The most common approach is to append a unique query string to the url your banner links to so that you can see exactly which banner was being clicked. When the visitor reaches your page, you have a script run that records the unique query string as well as the visit.
Doing this, you'll have a count of how many visitors were attracted by each banner. Hopefully this helps solve your problem.
