I have started a text link auction site. It is currently free for all to use. It's getting great traffic and there are lots of good auctions going on. See my sig for location.

I am in the link advertising business and have noticed that several buyers are having trouble buying what they need.

What follows are several tips on safely and cheaply buying high PR links

* Buy direct for the webmaster - no middlemen. This will save you money and provide needed privacy.

* Links should be in your general industry.

* STAY away from big link networks that have been and will be PR-0'd in one full swoop. It has happened before and will happen again.

* Don’t buy from anyone who sells more than 10 paid links on a page.

* Don’t by from webmasters who liberally advertise their URL where they sell links. It puts you at risk. Secrecy is good for the site and link advertisers.

* You don't need to know the URL before buying. You need to know the web site category, location of the link, Alexa ranking, total outbound links, link page pr, link popularity and unique visitors per month. If you know these stats, you don’t need to see the site because you’ll get what you need. A webmaster that protects his location is a GOOD thing

* Don’t pay $180 for PR 7; they can be had for $120.

* Make sure you get a strait link to your site. Redirects are worthless as the SE have trouble following them back to your site.

* A home page links or inside page links doesn’t make much difference. PR is PR.

* Look for a good package deal. (ie.. 1 PR 7 , 2 PR 6 an 5 pr 5 ) are often cheaper and offer a huge bank for the buck.

* Ask questions before you buy.

That’s it for buyer tips. Coming soon will be seller tips

While I agree with many of you points, I do disagree with a couple. First, "technically" you should not be buying text links for the sole purpose of increasing your PR according to Google. Do webmasters still do it? Yes. Can google tell the difference on wether you purchased a text link for PR? In most cases not really.
My point is that you should not openly say your are selling "PR" or you are taking a big risk. There has been some heated discussions about this issue in other forums.

"* Buy direct for the webmaster - no middlemen. This will save you money and provide needed privacy."

If you can find them directly then great, by all means do it. You can save money. However there are some middlemen that can find you deals for less that what many "direct: webmasters are selling text link ads for.

"* Links should be in your general industry."
If you can then I agree it's is better. But it will make no difference in the PR passed.

* STAY away from big link networks that have been and will be PR-0'd in one full swoop. It has happened before and will happen again.

Agreed.

* Don’t buy from anyone who sells more than 10 paid links on a page.

IMO, the lesser amount the better, but I would not start worrying until you start reaching 30 or more. The amount of PR 'leakage" is probably pretty small until the amount starts getting really excessive.

* Don’t by from webmasters who liberally advertise their URL where they sell links. It puts you at risk. Secrecy is good for the site and link advertisers."

Agreed. But it really depends on the wording. There is nothing wrong with selling "text ads". If is happens to be on a high PR page, then that's a bonus.

"* You don't need to know the URL before buying. You need to know the web site category, location of the link, Alexa ranking, total outbound links, link page pr, link popularity and unique visitors per month. If you know these stats, you don’t need to see the site because you’ll get what you need. A webmaster that protects his location is a GOOD thing"

Agreed.

"* Make sure you get a strait link to your site. Redirects are worthless as the SE have trouble following them back to your site."

Yes. Very Important.

* A home page links or inside page links doesn’t make much difference. PR is PR.

Agreed

Chief,

Thanks for your excellent input. One thing, I never said I am selling PR, if fact, I am not selling nothing.... at this point I am only spending money and time. Plus I got sick of people ripping others off selling PR 7s for $399. LinkAdage Auctions is simply an avenue for webmasters to sell text link ad space without going through a high dollar agency or middle man.

I encourage the buyer to look at the whole package. Since so many are obsessed with the PR thing, I wanted to point out link selling and PR risks and rewards. Too me, a site with high traffic and Alexa rating in my industry is more important than PR to me.
