I've always wondered how blogs went form nothing to something in two seconds. No one can figure it out but it seems blogs pulled a good one out of the hat. What do you think are some causes as to the recent hike in blogging interests?

Thank You

Lots of people want websites and blogging is super easy and free. Making a simple text website with html is daunting for some people, but blogging is even easier than working with MS Word.

The ease of using them is definitely part of it. I think most of us have a natural desire to express ourselves and a blog offers a way to share your thoughts with a potentially large audience. Sure that could have been done with a website, but a blog really is simple to use.

I think once a few people made money with blogs or saw the business advantages of having one many others wanted one. Even though maintaining a blog is a lot of work some people think it's a way to make quick money.

Blogs are also a very fast way to spread information. If you find a good new story you can wait till tomorrow's paper or the late news. Or you can blog about it and in 10 minutes it could be all over the web.

Mostly though it's how easy they are to use.

Zenjen you may very well be right in that it mostly comes down to the ease of entry in having a blog.

I disagree with Numbah 1.

A default blog install is hopeless for search engine marketing. MOD_REWRITE isn't enough.
Wordpress chugs out code that won't attract search engine love. You need to customise it, which can be a real pain, even for an experienced webmaster.

If the moderators don't mind, I have some SEO'd themes here, for Wordpress:

More info. here:

If you just install a blog as-is, you'll struggle to get search engine love, even if you have a good number of links.

Blogs are a very good way for a non-techie to get his obessions on the 'net, but they are very bad for search engine marketing.

e.g. duplicate content, duplicate titles, no meta description tags, irrelevant code, etc.
