Tim, I'm currently using WordPress and have been extremely happy with it. It's the only blog software I've used so I have nothing to compare it to, but there seems to have been a lot of attention to detail when they built it which I've often seen lacking in other applications I've looked at.
Wong, why do you think all the plugins make things difficult. I like the concept of starting with a bare bones application and then only adding the functionality I want to have. makes the appliction less bloated and customized for my particular needs. Installing plugins couldn't be easier. Just upload them to the plugin directory and enable it in the interface and you have a working plugin.

I use Wordpress, have used blogger, greymatter and B2 in the past!
I have to say I get ALOT of comment spam with WP, even with several plugins installed that are meant to prevent it, and I find the templates hard to edit...I prefered b2!

My blog is still new so there's not enough traffic at the moment for spam to be a problem. Did you require the name and email before allowing someone to comment?

I think the concept of plugins and extensions is a great one. You get the core application and then can customize it fit your needs instead of what someone else thinks you might want. Most of us never use all of the features of any given program so it's nice just to be able to only have the ones you want incuded.
One of the things I've noticed about WordPress is that the code is pretty good and the appliction seems to be rather search engine friendly. Maybe it's similar with other blogs too, but the more I've used WordPress the more impressed I've been with it.

hi
I used wordpress for my blog too. As it is very new, I have had only one spam comment in it. I have 2 more blogs by bloglines - now I very rately update them, as I spend my time on the wp blog at my site. thanks

I use wordpress and prefer it above all the others I've used. I think I've tried B2, Blogger, MT. It's easy to upgrade, it's easy to find additional functionality through plugins. Templating is alot easier than in MT. And it's on my server not someone elses like blogger. I find that having to have blogger ftp to my server a pain in the butt. And database driven makes protability easier if I ever decide to change software.

Just Expression Engine for my blog.
I was on WordPress, and loved it...until they rushed the release of 2.0. It had so many bugs and holes in it, I gave up on it for my site (after cursing them and calling Matt every name in the book, of course). If it weren't for WordPress pissing me off, I would have never gave myself a crash course in Expression Engine. It is far more flexible for what I need than wordpress was. ![]() I have a love/hate relationship with WordPress, I guess.I still recommend it to clients, because I still think it's the most user-friendly, but it's just not for me, anymore. |

What kind of developer community does Expression Engine have? It looks pretty good, but one of my favorite thngs about WordPress is the availability of plugins.

Anyway, EE's developer community is growing. They have a lot more plugins now, than when I made the move to EE last year...and the best part...their development documentation has gotten a whole lot better! I also keep telling myself that when I'm not so busy, I'll get back to developing plugins and themes... ...haven't done that yet, either... |

Thanks techwench. I took a look at Expression Engine and have seen a lot of the themes you've developed and it all looks good. Looking through the feature list it seems like a lot is included initially that WordPress requires a plugin to get the same functionality.
Have you ever tried the discussion forum module? I know what you mean about developing plugins and themes. It wouldn't be getting back to them for me, but I keep telling myself to get started developing both. Along with a thousand other things of course.
