This is true based on my own personal experiences But I have stopped freelance writing work because I cannot bear to write another article which I do not personally believe in or know about.
As a blogger I enjoy writing about all sort of things - including pretty useless topics that just tickle my mind. But what I love the most about blogging is that I can genuinely pursue my passion rather than just wait for somebody to tell me what to write about.
That is also the reason why I stopped working on freelancer for quite some time now.
Nobody will pay me to write about gibberish or speaking out of my mind types of topics.
As a freelance writer - I have earned more than $4,000 in one year. That's from 2010 to 2011.
As a blogger - I have earned $200 - of which I didn't get $100 because somehow the google adsense check got lost in the paranaque city post office. (Fair warning to all those who are Adsense first timers...)
Anyway, I am at a point in my blogging endeavors where I feel tired - I have written more than 1,000 blog posts on all my blogs but earn very little despite a modestly ok traffic of about 500 UVs a day.
How about you? Do you think I should go back to freelance writing? Or is there hope at all for bloggers?

I am a freelance writer but am shifting to blogging slowly. I am loving it more while blogging but the money thing indeed is a pain. But I am prepared to wait just to see if my blog really comes up well and helps me earn a bit more.

I also started out the same way, I used my freelance earnings to buy domains and stuff. But it is easier to make money as a freelancer than a blogger.

Which is exactly what "blogging" should be.

Carry on with the blogging about anything and everything.
You will find that as you expand your horizons generally, your writing will get better, so your content will improve. You are now writing for yourself, which means also writing for other human beings, rather than writing like an automaton programmed to cram in "keywords" every so often which makes whatever you do write seem stitled and/or forced.
Just research random "stuff", it doesn't matter whether it is "Adsense valuable" or not, just write about it.
When it comes to promotion, ignore your "home page" URL, promote the post URL that you want people to read and maybe click on the adverts.
Adsense was never meant to be a way of earning a living, it was a way getting some extra money by providing content for others.

Making money as a freelance writer is possible but more importantly, how to find freelance writing clients and get paid?

Interesting. I had no idea. Blogging is hard to make money with, so I guess I'm not too surprised.

Thank you for the profound words of encouragement but you know, the lack of monetary compensation directly correlates with decreasing motivation.
I dunno, somehow, somewhere along the way, my mind has been cemented into believing that I can be like Tim Carter, or like Pete Cashmore. <<< See, even the dude's name spells "blogging success"
CASH MORE
It must have been those countless hyped articles by John Chow, Shoe Money and all those buffoons getting to my head that I can earn $100 or more a day from adsense.
Anyway, the only real way to conceive adsense being a real money maker, is to become a media company.
Any major media website, blog that I see now, has Adsense ads, so targetted bulk traffic stemming from original and genuine "independent journalistic" content could be the key.
I mean, slap me around now, if I'm wrong. CNN, Inquirer.net (a national daily here, etc. all use adsense but I suppose they're making the bulk of their money from direct sponsorships).
Offline, the family business is doing relatively OK. But I was hoping that I could have something that's 100 percent in my control - like my own online business.
Then my next plan would be to use the online business to expand the offline ones in a never ending expansion cycle.

Do you mean finding clients that would pay you to write? It's kinda weird to ask that question since I suppose everybody knows that freelancer.com existed way before tycoon talk. Ergo, you are asking a question that you already know the answer to.
Whatever "how to find freelance writing clients and get paid?" means, I'm sure you can find it on freelancer.com

Sorry to say, you're wrong. Any blog takes constant effort and hard work to get to that level, and it is equally as hard to maintain that level.

Freelancer restricts adjudication to the projects with attractive pay outs of above $30. Its efficiency keeps you secure from all hazards, as it prevents you to access your income for weeks if unused properly. Thus, you’re advised to use it cautiously. It has similar working patterns with oDesk.

I'm definitely making more money through my freelance writing right now than I am from my blog. At this point I'm barely making any cash from it, but I am getting a pile of stuff to review for free. So far I've gotten close to $1,000 in free products this year.
This is the first "real" blog I've ever had so it's definitely a learning process. I started it at the beginning of the year so I still don't really have a clue what I'm doing lol Today I did finally get my PR/Media kit page finished, and I think I've got my pitch letters pretty much done.
I'm also a part of different ad programs that allow me to offer different promotions for my readers that I earn money per sign-up or click on. Hopefully, as I continue to expand my blog and my audience I'll start seeing better returns on those. I'm also going to start accepting sponsored posts and sidebar advertising to increase my revenue.
The freelance writing allowed me to quit my day job. Now I just need the blog to allow me to quit that Then I can really start having fun instead of writing dumb boring articles about things I just don't give a crap about lol

problem with blogs is making money out of them takes longer. You couldnt leave your day job on a plan to set up 100 blogs, or just 5 niche ones. The blogs need a lot of marketing and proper SEO before any monetary gain. Its best to take on freelance writing jobs while building your blog empire or a single business site.
