Are you wondering about having other people guest post on your blog or about you writing guest posts for other blogs?
With the later it's an opportunity to reach the community around another blog and let them know you exist and see an example of what they might find if they follow you back to your blog. If you put time and effort into the posts and write for a variety of blogs with audiences similar to yours, it can a good way to build your audience.
With the former it's mostly about saving you time, since you don't have to create as much content. It can also be a way to attract a different voice to your blog and so attract new people who like the different authors and perspectives. You do have to find good authors to make it work.

If I were a guest blogger on your site, what benefit would I get out of it? Maybe a backlink to my own site/blog and some additional traffic?
To get people to post as guest bloggers, you'd need to offer some kind of incentive.

Both of these techniques solve different purposes. But, it's tough to find high pr sites for posting guest blogs. Find some and start doing it today. It would help both in short and long term.

1. You shouldn't be basing where to guest post on PR
2. If you can write well it's easy to find guest posting opportunities anywhere

We have tried many kinds of marketing method to promote our website, except guest posting. Guest posting is still new to me. So I want to know what's the process for guest posting? Do i have to write unique content/article for them?
If I want to have my post on others' blogs, will they ask me to also put theirs on mine?
Thanks for your help.

You want to first write as well as you can in general. Sometimes if things you've written have attracted the attention of people looking for contributors, they'll contact you. Some sites seek out guest posts and have pages on their sites describing how to submit content. You can find these sites through some basic searching. Sometimes you can email the owners of a blog and ask if you might guest post. It would help if you've previously spent time commenting on that same blog or building some kind of relationship with the blogger.
And yes you need to write unique content for the sites you guest write for. You should be writing the best article/post you can for the other site.

Today I asked my first guest to make a guest post on my blog. I like the idea of having free content on my page that I didn't have to produce (given it's written well).

None of that will help get your guest post approved. If anything if you spend too much time focusing on keywords and PR you aren't likely to get approved by a site that has authority.
If you want a guest post accepted on an authority site you have to do one thing. Write something worth being published on that site.

Well if it is something very worth to read then sure it is. Do not just consider about the keyword. Always try to write very effective articles and the content should be attracting readers. Otherwise it will be useless.

Did anyone get to read about the words by Matt Cutts on guest blogs? You really need to ensure that you aren't posting an article onto a website that accepts guest posts shearly to get a backlink. It's important that the article adds real good value to the site and isn't a spam or a repetitive content as seen on most of the other websites.

It was difficult to read either of the articles you point to, since they didn't exist when this thread was active.
Both good articles though with good advice. I don't think they change anything I said above. I've always felt the main reason for guest blogging is to get your content in front of an audience that is likely to want more and just needs to know it exists.
At the same time I don't think there's anything wrong with understand how a search engine will view the content and tweaking it a little.

To get people to post as guest bloggers will not need any incentive. people will gladly write content for a back link because the back link inside content is worth lots more than the effort it took to write a post.
Funnily enough sites seem to except guest post because they just want the extra content. The deal is much better for the guest blogger who is getting the back link, as long as it is do-follow. Be careful with this, because many blogs have no-follow only links coming from in content because they believe this is what Google wants for them to rank.

Speak for yourself. That might be true if what you're writing strays far from the word quality, but if your goal is to create truly good content it takes time and effort. And unless you're creating content of high quality you aren't getting published on a site where the link back to you will be worth much.

I don't write guest blogs - as I want my articles to be on my site only. For that reason I also no longer do article submissions.

Staying away from article directories is good advice, but never guest posting isn't. Guest posting can be a great form of marketing. It can help bring your blog to the attention of people who might otherwise never know about it. It's a way to promote your blog.
Guest blogging offers you a chance to reach a lot of people you probably aren't going to reach by placing the same content on your own blog.

I think having a guest blogger is good. It means you're open to letting your readers hear some other opinion and ideas.
