I also agree that both are equally easy to create. But if a forum grows, it can take a lot of time answering member questions and moderating it.

There are already forum templates available on the Internet. So developing a forum is now easier even if you don't the technical knowledge.

But there are also blog templates available on the Internet. So both are just as easy from that standpoint.

I would say a blog. Forums are slightly more complicated to operate and much harder to get launched...more maintenance too.

They are easy to create, but how hard it is to support a forum and even a blog if you want your forum to be successful and profitable.

Blog is very effective than the forum. Yes forum is also important for getting back links but from blog we can get more links and traffic too. As well as we can earn money with the help of blogs. We can advertise our service or product on our blogs.

If you want to make your own content (or have the means to) I would go with a blog.
If you want other people to contribute content, go with a forum.

It's easier to create a blog. But a blog requires a lot of dedication from yourself. A forum is more difficult to develop from scratch because it requires active discussions (so you need to get people to help you out with that). But after it takes off, a forum can run on its own while a blog still requires your attention...unless you get others to blog as well.

I think a forum is better because users can discuss with each other.

It is totally dependant on the kind of site that you want to build!

I chose a forum for my latest project because I wanted to build a community. A place to share experiences, advice and knowledge between users. Not for users to learn from me alone!

A network of users is obviously a lot harder to manage than yourself. So you have to consider where the power of your site will lie.

Is your site mostly for sharing your views and advice with others? Or is it going to be a platform for communication.

I could think of a million other ways to put it but I think you get the point

Blogging is a really easy way to add content to a website. Even if people might not be viewing your blog on a regular basis, it can boost your ranking on SERPs do to the fact that it is usually keyword rich content. I know blogging might take more work, but its going to give you better results as well.

Oh please!!!!

Why oh why, is a forum essential for a new site?????

A forum is only essential if the "new site" is a discussion board and how does a "blog site" send traffic if nobody knows about it????

Yes both are easy to create but a forum is harder to maintain specially when it comes to spammers. And yes, a blog provides more traffic.

I think, a blog is easy to create and maintain. On blog, it is OK, if you don't moderate everyday but with a forum, moderation is essential on regular basis.
