You need to take care of these things in order to increase the traffic:

-> update blog daily
-> maintain good contents.
-> Design your blog a unique and eay to read for web users
-> submit your blog in major search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc..,
-> do your blog marketing with link exchange, directory submission and banner marketing
-> do forum posting on other forums as more as you can.

These things will definitely increase the traffic on your blog.

If you can do hardwork then your blog could probably known in just a short time. You just need basic promoting like thewebhostingdi post. Also blog commenting in related in your niche will sure things works. Goodluck

besides these, you could also try some off line promotion. And never neglect the power of traditional media.

In addition join social networking site and become active and insert your site on your profile and you can sometimes promote the links on your friends.

If you are using Blogger as your blogging platform you get the added advantage of Blogger.com sending you traffic.

I have had very good success with two blogging directories too. Blog Catalog and Top of Blogs which both actually link back to your blog. Many blog directories don't even link back so it is pretty pointless signing up with them.

They mean to get some of your friends to basically help promote your blog through social networking sites. Stumble Upon, Digg, etc. They can vote for it to help increase it's exposure.

i got it ,in fact my website is just service my friends about literature,they often enjoy my words and give me some comments,i like this ,nearly evevyday i upgrate my blog,for a long time i don't think about earning money ,but i have senn a member who need ad provider,and don't know how to add ad,maybe you can help him...
