There's nothing in plug-ins or Dashboard that refers to do or don't follow in the comments section. Is this automatically set to no follow or do people generally do that manually?

2nd question: By keeping your blog do follow, how much harm are you doing to your optimization?

By default WordPress makes comments nofollow. If you are just starting out your blog it may be worth while to load a plugin that changes comments to dofollow. This promotes people to check up on your new content for opportunities to gain links. The more comments you have the more you are potentially engaging readers and adding value.

If just starting out I would consider changing comments to dofollow.

You CAN'T change them to "dofollow" there is no such instruction/value.

You can of course set it without a nofollow value and let the SEs that use the rel attribute value decide for themselves.

Download the semilogic dofollow plugin.....this is what I have.

And the whole nofollow thing is dumb. All my blogs are dofollow.....it does not hurt anything. Infact you will get more traffic as a dofollow blog. Some cry about spam...but askimet does a terriffic job of filtering it out!

Dofollow has it benefits, more people will visit you to drop his comments. (be sure to use a spam filter) And you will be found faster by several dofollow search engines, that have been established.

do follow can make you more visitors and make you more backlinks, so do make comment on do follow webiste is good for your seo

before making your comments with no nofollow attribute i would recommend using Akismet plugin to protect your blog from spam comments to get your headache less

I highly suggest you install the HeadSpace 2 plugin -- it allows you to adjust robots for each individual page/section.

Such an important point that it bears to be repeated twice! .

If you use a good spam filter, you wont get those spammy comments there. Dofollow has it benefits, and disadvantages when you are not using any filter.

They are no-follow. You can set it to do-follow and install an anti-spam plugin like captcha verification for the commenter, if the comment is done by a software or bot it will not see the captcha verification thus, giveing you a coclusion (as the admin) to consider the comment a spam.

Wordpress comments are nofollow, but why bother? Nofollow links are still links. They can still be a source of traffic.
