• Provide social bookmarking features on your blog posts
• Submit your blog RSS feed to RSS Feed Directories
• Post new, unique content every day if you can
• Social networking such as Twitter with targeted followers

Making your blog popular is just like with promoting your main site. Of course, first you must need to establish a quality content on your blog. You need to provide with interesting and useful content to your readers. Then you may start bookmarking your posts to several social bookmarking or networking site to increase its traffic..

Here are some Blogging Tips for you...

1. Blog about a Niche and Never Give Up.
2. Blog till you die and never give up.
3. Remove rel="nofollow" on your comments.
4. Give a SEO tweak on your title tags.
5. Provide an alternative way to contact you (MSN Skype,..etc).
6. Insert Meta Keyword and Meta Description.
7. Write list of (Top 10, How to, ..etc).
8. Submit and Bookmark you articles on (Stumbleupon, Digg, Del.icio.us, Reddit)
9. Join Social Blog network (MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog).
10. Claim your blog on Technorati.

there's really no shortcut but for a tricky trick, head on to blogcatalog and tell everyone that anyone who comments on your blog will get a free backlink... That way people would start coming, and commenting.. And good number of comments is a good sign..

In my opinion the most important thing needed to promote a blog is to

Write Right.

Poor spelling, grammar, and formatting turn people away very quickly, but well written, easy to read posts get read and sometimes linked to. It's these links that build the visitor count.

Choose a topic you are passionate about.
Research it. This is so you can see what new value you can add to the topic and so you can cite other experts.
Outline what you want to write about.
Fill in the outline.
Edit, Proofread, and Publish.

Oh yes, if blog psot are written is some language or grammar that couldn't be read smoothly - no chance to be popular... maybe warez... but...
